Shopping In Tenerife
Tenerife is considered by many to be a spender’s paradise! Shopping in Tenerife is the place to be if spoiling yourself with treats from a shopping spree sounds like an ideal time. Many locations in Tenerife make any shopping experience interesting and a great spot for finding bargains and deals along with a wide selection of food shops. Having a hired car is an ideal way to get to these shops and not have to worry if you will have any money left once you get to your destination.
The other Canary Islands aren’t the only islands that are a partly tax free area, but Tenerife is as well. This means that the prices for tobacco, alcohol and fragrances cost less than on average than other European countries.
In Santa Cruz, most of the shops here are located along or in the streets. Villalba Hervás, El Castillo, Doctor Allart, Bethencourt Alfonso and San José are the main hot-spots for these stores as well as the Plaza de España and Plaza de la Candelaria. The best time to visit the stores found here is normally in the morning and afternoon.
Cheap electronics that are offered here are as varied as they are inexpensive. The quality and the brands are for the most part, the same as any found in any other country. Cell phones have been known to be very inexpensive. The average price for a Nokia-GSM phone begins at Ptas 10.000! Other electronics such as CD-players, car stereos and cameras can be found through these stores as well. The selection of watches seems to be nothing less than endless. Even “Camel watches” are a steal for the prices being offered!
When it comes to buying perfumes and colognes, it is best to buy them at the airport when leaving, going to Tenerife, or inside the plane. Perfumes at cheap prices can be found in Puerto as well, but some aren’t the real thing unfortunately. There are several "tax free" shops within the Sofia Reina airport, though; the prices can be slightly higher than those found in Puerto de la Cruz or Santa Cruz. An alcoholic beverage from a bar in the airport can cost almost double as much than one from a bar in Puerto.
Along with the other stores in Tenerife, there are many department storesas well which can mainly be found in the tourist areas and the largely populated parts of the island. Shopping in these areas is as exciting as it gets due to the highly competitive prices. The main area for finding the best deals shopping wise is found in the southern part of the island; places such as Playa De Las Americas as well as Los Cristianos, and not to mention Santa Cruz, which just happens to be Tenerife’s capitol. Many major and some minor brand name labels can be found here in these department stores along with computer equipment, home appliances, upholstery, electronics, and so much more! When shopping around in Tenerife, remember to take advantage of the low/tax- free areas!
