Tenerife’s weather has a great tropical climate all year round. The island enjoys plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures almost every month through the year. Its best not to pack a lot of warm clothes since you really will not need them during the summer. Expect to change outfits at least a couple of times through out the day due to the high temperatures. Wear comfortable walking shoes since many villas and apartment complexes are located on steep hills.
Bringing traveler’s checks and credit cards over cash will help ensuring against theft or loss. For cash, bring only what would be needed for the day and lock away the rest in a safety deposit box.
Banks are the best place to go to when exchanging money.
It is best to also bring your driving license even if you’re not hiring a car. You may find yourself deciding to hire a car. There is a lot to see and hiring a car is one great way to see a lot more of the island than you would on foot or public transportation!
Pack a small first aid kit with plasters, antiseptic, headache and stomach-ache pills, maybe ear-plugs if you're a light sleeper. Also make sure you have an insurance policy that covers you if you need to visit a private medical centre here, as they can be a bit expensive. Bring toiletries from home, they'll probably be cheaper than here. When you get to your apartment or see your rep, find out the emergency medical number to call that your insurance covers then keep that number with you at all times. Don't rely on the local emergency health system.
Don't get drunk at night and leave all your cash or purse in the living room and then go to sleep. 90 percent of all reported thefts happen this way. Be careful very careful with your belongings
You will only need your passport when you want to change currency, at a bank or driving around. It is best to keep it locked away when not doing any of those activities.
Leaving Tenerife:
When checking out, the check-out time is noon. Remember to check with the reception desk for the time and location to put luggage when waiting to go to the airport.
There are some facilities for showers and to change through out the afternoon and evening hours, however, some may ask you to pay extra for that service.
Put your passport and tickets in a hand bag rather then in a suitcase. Remember to empty the safety deposit box and return the keys. Pack imitation weapons in a suitcase and not in a hand bag, otherwise they will be confiscated. No knives are only allowed on a plane when they are packed in a suitcase. |
